Where: respiratory system
The condition is a Progressive Atrophic Rhinitis (PAR). This pig is sneezing. It has tear staining and the upper jaw is displaced giving a look of a funny nose. It is caused by particular strains of Pasteurella multocida, which live in the respiratory tract of the pig. The strains causing PAR produce a powerful toxin, the dermonecrotoxin, which is responsible for the changes seen in the disease.
The farm buys replacement gilts. There are not quarantine/isolation facilities. The unit is overstocked.
