The federal government has agreed on the introduction of a state and uniform label in favour of animal health to tag animal-derived food. The Bill on the labelling in favour of animal welfare was approved last September 4^th, and it would regulate in a first stage, the labelling of pork.

In August, price quotations for pigmeat strengthened further, underpinned by a strong import demand from Asia.

According to data by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), meat production fell by some 2.6% or 102,700 tonnes in comparison with the first semester of 2018.
