Wild boar
During the first quarter of 2026, outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in wild boar in Europe decreased by 16% compared to the same period in 2025 (3760 cases vs. 4481), although there are significant differences between countries.
There were significant reductions in wild boar outbreaks in countries with previously high incidence, such as Poland (from 1,465 to 921 outbreaks) and Germany (from 885 to 260). Decreases were also observed in Greece, Latvia, and Ukraine.

However, this trend is not uniform; some countries have registered notable increases. Among the countries with the greatest surge, Lithuania has gone from 296 to 569 outbreaks (+92%), Croatia from 7 to 76 (+986%), and Italy from 289 to 477 (+65%). Serbia has also seen an increase in wild boar cases, from 23 to 61, while Moldova has seen a rise from 5 to 15. The most striking is the emergence of the disease in Spain at the end of last year, which has reported 33 outbreaks during the first quarter of 2026 (ADIS data as of April 15).
