Transmission of Lawsonia intracellularis using a seeder pig model

Fecal to oral transmission of PE is considered to be a major factor in the spread of a Lawsonia infection. A seeder pig model, designed to show the effect of introducing an infected animal into a population of susceptible contact animals, allows characterization of natural transmission of Lawsonia and determination of the effect of an antibiotic intervention.

Inovio Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a leader in the development of synthetic immunogens against cancers and infectious diseases, announced today that it has entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate Plum Island Animal Disease Center. This collaboration will evaluate the efficacy of Inovio's SynCon® vaccines for foot & mouth disease (FMD) in important animal models including cattle, sheep, and pigs.
