OIE - 20th Conference of the OIE Regional Commission for the Americas

High-ranking officials from all OIE Member Countries in the Americas, including the Caribbean, and from national, regional and world organisations, including the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), attended the 20th Conference of the OIE Regional Commission for the Americas, held in Montevideo (Uruguay) from 16 to 19 November 2010.

Russia - Temporary restrictions on import of breeding animals from a number of Danish farms

In 2010 the Rosselkhoznadzor authorized import of 1360 breeding pigs from Denmark to the Belgorodskaya Oblast. The animals were imported in three consignments accompanied with phytosanitary certificates issued by the National Veterinary Service of Denmark according to which the animals were clinically healthy. 320 animals with lesions on legs and limp were detected in the course of the daily clinical examination in the quarantine period.

Mexico - Chiapas free from Aujeszky disease

The National Agri-Food Service, Quality, and Health Service of Mexico (SENASICA) has declared Chiapas as Aujeszky disease-free zone, meaning that 68% of their national territory is free of this disease that affects swine.

Brazil - USDA changes disease status of the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina with regard to certain ruminant and swine diseases

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is amending its regulations governing the importation of certain animals and animal products by adding the Brazilian State of Santa Catarina to the list of regions we recognize as free of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), rinderpest, swine vesicular disease (SVD), classical swine fever (CSF) and African swine fever (ASF). APHIS is also adding Santa Catarina to the list of regions that are subject to certain import restrictions on meat and meat products because of their proximity to or trading relationships with rinderpest- or FMD-affected countries.

United Kingdom - Sales of veterinary antimicrobials in the UK in 2009

Defra has published a report on sales of veterinary antimicrobials for 2009. The report, produced by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD), shows that total sales of therapeutic antimicrobials in 2009 was 402 tonnes, which was an increase of 18 tonnes (4.7%) when compared with 2008, when 384 tonnes were sold.
