USA - Food Defense Plan Survey results

The fifth food defense plan survey was conducted August 2010. The universe of facilities surveyed was expanded in 2010 to include not only meat and poultry slaughter and processing establishments, but also processed egg products plants and official import inspection establishments. Overall, 74% of all establishments surveyed have a functional food defense plan (up from 62% in 2009).

Guaranteeing quality to consumers and a fair price for farmers are the twin aims of the "Quality Package" adopted today by the European Commission. This Quality Package sets up for the first time a comprehensive policy on certification schemes, value-adding terms for agricultural product qualities, and product standards. Until now these have been spread among numerous pieces of legislation. With this Package, the Commission covers all facets of quality, from compliance with minimum standards to highly specific products.

Fat investment renders new life into old plant

Officially opening a new $10 million red meat rendering facility for the Craig Mostyn Group (CMG) at Talloman, Hazelmere, Western Australia, yesterday, WA Minister for Agriculture and Food, Terry Redman, said the investment showed CMG’s commitment to continuous improvement and a willingness to invest in upgrading its operations.
