Under the conditions of this study, it makes no difference to protection whether PCV2 and PRRSV vaccines are administered concurrently. Concurrent vaccination is efficacious for controlling co-infection with PCV2 and PRRSV.

To increase efficiency, active sampling should be intensified (more animals sampled) and monitored fattening groups abandoned. This would significantly improve sensitivity and time to detection at comparable or lower costs.

This is the first case report in the United States associating SV-A with a clinical course of severe but transient neonatal morbidity and mortality followed by vesicular lesions in breeding stock animals.

Serum antibodies against NP provide an ideal universal diagnostic screening target and could provide a cost-effective approach for the detection and surveillance of IAV infections in swine populations.

The findings will be of utility for a better understanding of ASFV pathogenesis and for the rational designing of safe and efficient vaccines against this virus.
