Elimination of Porcine Respiratory Coronavirus

A research protocol was designed to eradicate the virus in pigs sourced from a PRCV positive sow herd. The sow herd is a 150 farrow to finish herd, under one roof, and is PRRS and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae negative. Forty piglets were weaned from nursing gilts/sows at 5 days of age and removed to a separate nursery which had been thoroughly disinfected and cleaned.

The specialists of Kropotkinskaya regional veterinary laboratory detected genetic material of ASF virus in the samples of pathological material collected from dead and emergency slaughtered swine kept in a pig farm rented by a private person in the territory of agricultural and animal breeding complex "Kedr" located 2.5 km from village of Krasnoye, Voznesenskoye settlement, Labinsky Rayon, Krasnodar Krai.

Taiwan – New outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease

Abnormal lesions on fifteen pigs' feet were found on the truck by routine inspection before they entered into the auction market of Tainan City. The local animal disease control competent authority traced back to the farm of origin to carry out the clinical investigation. The result showed that 15 pigs on farm had the same clinical lesions. Thirty pigs, the 15 pigs on the truck and the 15 pigs on the index farm, were destroyed on 21 March 2011.

According to USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), China is once again accepting live hogs exported from the United States. China had suspended those imports two years ago, when H1N1 influenza virus was sickening people, along with pork products.
