Pork producers are invited to attend either of two workshops focusing on advanced swine reproductive management topics scheduled for early next month in northwest Iowa and northeast Nebraska.

Hypor is pleased to announce the acquisition of Designed Genetics. Designed Genetics, based in Lockport, Manitoba (Canada), is widely recognized as a leader in Duroc breeding, with a growing share of the Duroc boar market globally.

JSR Genetics, the UK-based international pig breeding company, has agreed a joint venture to build and stock a state of the art Nucleus on a Greenfield site in China. The 900 sow Nucleus will be located in the Hubei province of China and is expected to be complete in December 2010. The deal, which includes the shipment of both dam lines and sire lines, reinforces JSR’s commitment to investing in Nucleus facilities within the target market.

Pigs per sow per year and numbers weaned have always been the main performance criteria adopted by pig producers to judge the success of their business. Both are useful indicators, indeed JSR have a commercial target of 25 pigs per sow per year, but it is important that producers keep an open mind on how they can measure unit efficiency and productivity.

Rapid progress in sow productivity in commercial pig herds is still possible, according to Yorkshire-based pig-breeding company ACMC.

In November 2008 BHZP and Hypor entered a strategic partnership. As a result Hypor recently acquired exclusivity for distribution of BHZP’s terminal boar lines in the Dutch market.

JSR has reaffirmed its keen interest in working with pig producers in Asia by signing a franchise contract with Evabiotech Ltd of Er Lun County in Taiwan, at Pig Focus Asia in Bangkok.
