EU Ambassador Vygaudas Ušackas stressed a great interest of the European Union in resumption of agricultural product export to Russia, in particular of pork.

According to AHDB Pork, January 2016 was another great month for UK pork exports. These increased by 17% to 16,900 tonnes year-on-year, driven by a doubling in shipments to China.

The European pork exports have started 2016 with a rise by 23.5% in comparison with January 2015.

The highest increases in monthly export values were achieved for pork and vegetables.

For Brazil, the opening of this market could entail a USD153,6 million/year business.

EU pork exports are expected to expand further but at a slower pace (3%) due to increased competition and availabilities in USA and Brazil.

Due to weak demand and lower unit values, poultry and products are decreased $400 million to $4.8 billion, while pork is forecast $100 million lower to $4.3 billion.

Pork was the most exported meat, with more than 1.25 million tonnes (+18% with respect to 2014) and a value of €2,704 million.

As of December 1st 2015, the Russian pig herd increased by 9.5%, adding up 21.9 million heads.

The main destination by far was China, with a total of 1,109,202 t exported (34% of total exports and an increase of 55% over the previous year.)

Pork production rises over the projection period, with increases also supported by rising slaughter weights.

Spanish swine sector estimates for 2016 a growth of 3.5 percent for total slaughters and of 3.9 percent of pork production.

The highest increases in monthly export values were witnessed for wheat as well as for vegetables and for pork.
