According to the German Food Industry Federal Association, the value of the food industry exports reached the record figure of €56,700 million, €2,000 million more than in 2015. The export sales create almost a third of the sector’s turnover.
The strongest export sectors in the food industry were meat and the meat industry, with a market share of 18.7%, baked goods (15.4%), dairy industry (13.4%), ready-made foods (9.0%) and alcoholic beverages (6,9%).
From the total of the exports, 78.3% were sent to EU countries, with The Netherlands, followed by France and Italy, being the main destinations.
