Peru's agricultural sector grew by 1.5% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI). Within the livestock subsector, which grew by 1.8%, pork production performed best with a 3.5% increase, driven by higher demand on the central and northern coast of the country.
The increase in pork came alongside growth in chicken production (+2.1%), with higher market placements in Lima and La Libertad, as well as raw cow’s milk (+2.2%), driven strongly by Arequipa and Puno.

In the agricultural sector, the 1.3% growth was led by export and domestic consumption crops: blueberries (+23.8%, in La Libertad, Lambayeque, and Áncash), yellow dent corn (+17.7%, in San Martín, Madre de Dios, and Ica), potatoes (+12.1%, in Huánuco, Cajamarca, and Arequipa), and avocados (+10.7%, in Lima, Ica, and La Libertad). Quinoa (+62.5%), cotton (+57.9%), and piquillo peppers (+64.1%) also stood out.
Moderate rainfall helped replenish reservoir levels during the period. MIDAGRI is maintaining constant monitoring of the El Niño phenomenon due to potential risks to coastal areas in the coming months.
