Chile: the pig meat exports increase

During last year (2012), the pig meat exports reached a record value of US$ 538 million.

According to the data of the Chilean Swine Producers Association (Asociación de Productores de Cerdos de Chile (Asprocer)), during last year (2012), the pig meat exports reached the record value of US$ 538 million, with a total of 272,000 tons, which represents a growth by 19% and 26%, respectively in comparison with year 2011.

According to the Asprocer, during the last 10 years Chile has kept being the sixth biggest pig meat importer in the world and the second one in Latin America, just below Brazil.

From the total of the meats exported by Chile, pig meat represents the 61.5%. It is followed by fowl (32.5%), lamb (3.8%) and beef (2.2%).
