Pork production in 2011 accounted for 38.0% of total meat production in Chile, amounting to 527,857 tons carcass weight. That is, a 5.9% increase compared to the previous year, this is despite the global economic crisis, the increase in grain prices and the post-earthquake impact. Consequently, the growth of pork production in the last decade went from just over 260,000 tons in 2000 to double that figure by 2011.

Regarding the consumption of pork, in 2011 there was an increase of 3.7%, in line with the country's economic growth and lower availability of beef in the market.
