According to the data of the Chilean Agriculture Studies and Policies Office, the swine sector ended year 2012 with a growth in production by about 12% with respect to year 2011.

The pig meat production in year 2011 represented 38% of the total Chilean meat production, reaching a total of 527,857 tons. This represents a rise by 5.9% with respect to year 2010, after two consecutive years with drops in production. During the January-October period of year 2012, a production of 488,337 tons was registered, that if compared with the same period of year 2011, represented a rise by 11.4%. The explanation for this tendency, that has rocketed since July, would be the start of the production of the first pigs at the complex that was being built in the north of the country.
