European meat - a guarantee of taste and safety

Europe is the second largest producer of pork and the third of beef in the world. Meat production is one of the basic branches of economy, is an important attribute of European historical-cultural identity. Pigs were domesticated in Europe around 4000 - 5000 years ago, a cows around 2000 years ago. These dates should therefore be considered as the beginning of constantly ongoing breeding work, improving methods of meat processing, as well as raising standards of safety and production’s quality. Great and counted in many centuries Europe’s experience in animals breeding has been supported in recent years by an integrated system of food safety controls.

USA - U.S. pork exports post solid may results

U.S. pork and beef exports in May exceeded year-ago levels by a considerable margin and kept year-to-date results on a very strong pace, according to statistics released by USDA and compiled by the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF).

Chile - Ready to export pork to China

The news came up in a meeting held by the Minister of Agriculture, José Antonio Galilea, on an official visit to China, and the Director of the Administration on the Supervision of Quality and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China (AQSIQ), Zhi Shuping, with whom he discussed several issues related with authorization of sending new agricultural products from Chile, to China.

France- Increase in pork importations and exportations

Throughout 2010 France has been confirmed as the third largest pork exporter in the EU, after Germany and Denmark. With a total volume of 730.000 tons, the French exportations have increased by 1,7%. Other EU countries continue to be the main destination with a volume of 561.000 tons (- 2,7%) while exportation to third party countries, although fewer (170.000 tons), showed an important rise (+20%).

European Union - Increase in EU pork exportations

The data presented at the last meeting of the EU Commission’s Management Committee put EU pork exportations during the months of January and February of 2011 at 444.138 tons, which indicates a 29,6% increase compared with the same period last year.

Italy - Increase in Parma ham exportations

2010 was a record year for exportation of the PDO product, "Prosciutto di Parma". With an increase of 9,5%, 2.256.000 hams were exported to over 80 different countries. Foreign markets currently represent 24% of Parma ham production.

Spain - Increase in Serrano ham exportations

According to information from the Spanish “Consorcio del jamón Serrano”, developed based on statistics from the National Tax Administration, throughout 2010 Spanish exports of cured ham grew by 4,8 percent in volume, reaching 22.680 tons, and by 6,8 percent in value, reaching 196 million Euros.
