Ukraine confirms African swine fever virus outbreak

African swine fever is registered in Zaporizhia region, the State Committee for Veterinary Medicine of Ukraine has reported to the OIE.

The outbreak was registered in Komyshuvatka, Zaporizhia region, in a private household.

Five animals were maintained in the backyard; three of them were affected with nonspecific clinical signs (only fever was observed) and quickly died. The samples taken from the dead animals were analysed by PCR method. The African swine fever virus was detected. A full range of measures to eradicate the outbreak are carrying out.

This is the first occurrence of ASF in Ukraine.
