In a letter dated April 22, 2026, the Philippine Department of Agriculture confirmed the recognition of the regionalization agreement for African swine fever (ASF) and the lifting of the 2019 import ban. This means that the export of pork meat and offal to the Philippines is once again possible, despite the presence of ASF.

This recognition, the result of years of intense negotiations by the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Consumer Protection (BMLEH), opens up an important export market for German producers.

The import ban was imposed due to the outbreak of ASF in the EU and, in 2020, in Germany. As a result, several countries outside the European Union banned the import of German pork and pork products.
