Nickolay Vlasov, Deputy Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor, forwarded to John Clifford, Deputy Administrator of the Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the Department of Agriculture of the USA, a letter. The letter said that the Rosselkhoznadzor carries out continuous monitoring of the epidemic situation on porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) in the world.

Considering significant amounts of live pigs imported from the USA to the Russian Federation the Rosselkhoznadzor imposes temporary restrictions on import of breeding and commercial pigs as well as not-heat-treated blood products used for manufacturing feeds for food-producing animals from May 30, 2014, to prevent the disease introduction into the RF territory. If breeding and commercial pigs were placed under quarantine in the exporting country for subsequent export to the Russian Federation before May 30, 2014, the decision on the entry of such animals to the RF will be made based on the ordinary procedure and followed by their quarantine in the territory of the Russian Federation and laboratory tests and treatments performed in accordance with the Customs Union and Russian Federation requirements and standards.
