The Polish delegation has informed the Council on the consequences of the price increase of cereals on animal production, in particular pig production. Poland would like the Commission to take actions such as selling cereals from intervention stocks and increasing intervention prices in the framework of the Single Common Market Organisation regulation.

Following the Polish request, the Greek delegation has also briefed the ministers on its request to implement measures aiming at mitigate the crisis in the cereal market, which turmoil has been triggered by recent events in Russia and Ukraine. Several delegations agreed to support Polish and Greek request.

The Commission confirmed that it intended to release intervention stock of cereals. However the increase of intervention price could be counter-productive.
