Taking into account that the country is not self-sufficient, and in order to reduce costs to agricultural producers, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Rodolfo Zea Navarro, reported that tariffs are suspended until June 30 on corn, sorghum, and soybeans-- all raw materials used to produce food for animals.

Even so, since the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is interested in promoting the national cereal sector, it will establish a series of direct support that will help increase national production and improve its competitiveness.

The decision to suspend the tariff was laid out in Decree 523 dated April 7, 2020, which also detailed that initially the measure would be in force until June 30 this year, but could be extended for up to three more months, based on a prior assessment by the Committee on Customs, Tariff and Foreign Trade Affairs and the Higher Council for Fiscal Policy (CONFIS).
