In 2018, Bulgaria informed the Commission about African swine fever cases in wild pigs and implemented the measures against this disease required by Council Directive 2002/60/CE. Given the current epidemiological situation, last December 7th, 2018, Bulgaria presented before the Commission a plan for the eradication of ASF.

The Commission has studied the eradication plan, and after checking that it fulfils the established requirements has decided to approve it by means of the Implementing Decision (EU) 2019/484.

Bulgaria confirmed the emergence of the disease in August 2018 on a backyard farm, and in October 2018 it confirmed the first case in wild boars.
