On-farm trials of the African swine fever (ASF) vaccine researched and produced by AVAC Vietnam Company have been underway since last July on the company's farms as well as on farms belonging to C.P Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company.

The Director of the Department of Animal Health, Mr. Nguyen Van Long, noted that there should be a closer assessment and that the two companies need to increase the sampling rate. However, according to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien, with the progress of implementation and results of vaccination in the field so far, it is expected that the commercial availability and use of vaccines will be announced in February.

According to reports by the end of December 2022, AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company has vaccinated 1800 pigs against ASF on 13 farms. Sampling results showed that 94.4% met the requirements for immunity.

Results from C.P Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company showed that pigs had no side effects after vaccination, all pigs were in normal health, and no virus was detected after 14 days of vaccination. The control herd had no antibodies while the vaccinated herd had 40% antibodies after 14 days, and 90% after 28 days.
