Starting June 2nd, there will be four pre-congresses taking place simultaneously. The theme of the time, “African Swine Fever and the innovations to control it”, gains attention from Carmina Gallardo, Denis Kolbasov, Marisa Arias and José Manoel Sanchez Vizcaíno. Pre-congress 2 will address the reproductive management of contemporary sows, with George Foxcroft, Nicoline Soede, John Pluske and Fernando Bortolozzo. “The welfare of pigs in the year of 2050” is the subject of the pre-congress 3, addressed by Inger Lise Andersen, Mark Holmes, Adroaldo José Zanella and Carlos Guerrero. The fourth pre-congress will deal with business.

On the second day of the IPVS2020, there will be eight separate sessions, each focusing on a current theme. Among the names are John Morris Fairbrother from the University of Montreal (Challenges generated by Escherichia coli in the post-weaning period for piglets), John Butler from the University of Iowa (Emerging viral diseases in pigs: an immunologist's perspective) and Amy Vicent from the USDA (Ten years after the 2009 pandemic H1N1 - What have we learned about the pig-man interface of the influenza?).
On June 4th, there will be lectures presented by researchers such as Maria Pieters, from the University of Minnesota (What we should still learn about Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae infection in pigs), John Pluske, from Murdoch University, in Australia (Intestinal health and the transition to the post-weaning period), and Jaap Wagenaar, from the University of Utrecht (The use of antimicrobials in the worldwide production).
Also ennobling the event are Andreas Kaasi, from Eva Scientific (Transformation of pig tissues and organs for use in human regenerative medicine) and Aidan Connolly, from Canthus (Imagine a digital future for pig farming: 9 technologies that will transform our industry), who hold lectures on the last day of the IPVS2020.
Animal welfare, nutrition, viral, bacterial and parasitic diseases, immunology and vaccination, food safety, reproduction, biosecurity, genetics, antimicrobials, clinical case studies, management, production and innovation, among other topics, are part of the scientific program carefully designed to meet the demands of the contemporary professionals.

The complete programm can be accessed at the event's official website. "Our program will discuss diseases with economic impact on the world's swine industry industry, including endemic and emerging bacterial and viral diseases, the productive and health impact of restricting the use of antimicrobials, among other issues," said the vice president of the Scientific Committee of the IPVS2020 and professor at the University of Minnesota in the United States,

Scientific Papers

Vannuci stresses that the IPVS Congress stands out for being an event held by scientists for scientists with a focus on applicability to the field of innovations produced within the academy. "One of the highlights of the IPVS2020 will be the exhibition and presentation of scientific papers. The IPVS2020 receives projects from the main universities in the world, which gives participants a global overview of what is being studied in the swine industry. And from there, we can trace the main tools that will be available and will be more relevant for the development of the activity in the coming years".

Fernanda Almeida, professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and president of the IPVS2020, highlights the importance of this meeting for the Brazilian swine industry. "Hosting this event in Brazil is a great opportunity to Brazilian professionals to access the results of cutting-edge research obtained in the main centers of the world, allowing discussions with scientists from all parts of the planet. We believe that this event can contribute greatly to a leap not only in terms of Brazilian scientific production, but also in terms of technologies in the field, and thus elevate Brazilian swine industry to a new level of technology, science and innovation", she points out.
