China Kangtai Cactus Biotech Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: CKGT), a vertically integrated grower, developer, manufacturer and marketer of a variety of cactus-based products in China, announced today that the company plans to begin marketing cactus hog feed in the forth quarter in 2009, following the successful launch of cactus cattle feed and fish feed in July 2008.

Guidelines for Foodborne Disease Outbreak Response was released July 15 by the Council to Improve Foodborne Outbreak Response (C.I.F.O.R.). Providing model practices used in foodborne disease outbreaks, including planning, detection, investigation, control and prevention, the guidelines are targeted to local, state and federal agencies.

Mexico - slight decrease in meat production in 2008

The latest figures from INEGI show a 0.1% decrease in meat production in Mexico in 2008 compared to the previous year. The most affected sectors were ovine, with a 13.9% decrease, pig meat, with a 3% decrease while beef production increased by 1.65%.

Swine Transition Seminar Set for Pork Producers Facing Economic Difficulties

Continuing poor economic conditions are taking a toll on pork producers, and many are looking for information as they face difficult choices in their operations. Iowa State University (ISU) Extension swine field specialist Dave Stender and ISU Extension farm management specialist Tom Olsen are coordinating a Swine Transition Seminar to help provide information, assistance and resources to producers.
