VIV Europe 2010 made the best out of a turbulent situation

The Icelandic volcanic ashes did not only seriously disrupt the air traffic over Europe. It also brought VIV Europe 2010, from 20 – 22 April, in a turbulent situation, as many of the expected visitors –especially from the Middle East, Russia and Asia- were depending on air traffic to reach Holland. Nevertheless over 10,000 visitors from 96 countries all over the world made it to the Jaarbeurs Utrecht venue to meet with 85% of the total expected field of exhibitors. Organizer VNU Exhibitions Europe: “This is a great example of the industry’s solidarity.”

EESC puts forward proposals to improve the CAP

Philippines - DA Distributes Swine in Region IX

The Swine Restocking Program under the Livestock industry of the Department of Agriculture (DA) distributed boars and gilts in the region. A total of 55 swine were dispersed from the province of Zamboanga del Sur , Zamboanga del Norte, Zambaonga Sibugay and Zamboanga City.

Hog cash receipts down 10% in 2009

According to USDA’s annual Meat Animals Production, Disposition, and Income report released this week, 2009 gross income from cattle and calves, hogs and pigs, and sheep and lambs for the U.S. totaled $59.0 billion, down 10 percent from 2008. Total 2009 cash receipts from marketings of meat animals decreased 10 percent to $58.6 billion.

Vietnam - Swine is largest livestock sector

Projections from the ministry’s livestock department suggest that on-farm pig numbers in Vietnam could rise from 33 million in 2008 to 57.6 million in 2020, taking the country’s annual pork production from 2.77 million to 4.12 million metric tons, as the demand for pork by Vietnamese consumers rises by 38% from 30.7 kilograms to 42.5 kilograms per person per year.

USA/Mexico- Procedural Agreement signed

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) today announced the signing of a procedural agreement with Mexico's National Service of Health, Food Safety, and Agro-Alimentary Quality (SENASICA).
