ASF Haiti: Update, new outbreaks in the north

African swine fever was first reported in south of Haiti but since then ten cases have been reported in the north.

The first reported ASF outbreak in Haiti occurred in the southeast point of the country on August 26 near the border with the Dominican Republic. Since then, ten more outbreaks have been reported to the OIE, all of which have occurred in the north of the country.

Between August 30 and September 29, outbreaks have been reported on small backyard farms in the following departments:

  • 5 outbreaks in Nord-Est
  • 3 outbreaks in Nord
  • 2 outbreaks in L'Artibonite

With the first outbreak in the Sud-Est department, the total number of reported outbreaks is brought to 11 with a total of 124 susceptible animals.
