The Official Commission for the Control and Eradication of Outbreaks of African Swine Fever reported on Monday that the disease affecting pigs was detected in 11 provinces of the country, so it immediately activated in those places the protocol for the isolation of the virus.

Among the provinces are Sánchez Ramírez, Santiago, Hermanas Mirabal, La Vega, Montecristi, Elías Piña, San Juan and the Distrito Nacional. Health control brigades are heading towards those areas to intervene in the backyard farms, as they are susceptible to be infected by the virus.

This Sunday, backyard farms located in Cevicos, Fantino, Villa la Mata, Quita Sueño and the municipality of Sánchez Ramírez were intervened. Some 14,135 pigs were identified and culled.
