The 2014 WASDE forecast of total red meat and poultry production is lowered from last month as higher beef production is more than offset by lower pork, broiler, and turkey production.

Pork production is lowered as reports indicate that Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus (PEDv) continues to spread. The hog price forecast is raised on reduced supplies of market hogs and strong demand. An estimated 23,420 million pounds are expected to be produced in 2014, which is a drop from the 23,580 million pounds forecast in the January WASDE report.
