Spain ranks as Europe's leading pork producer

The latest published data for the period January to September 2021 show that Spain surpassed Germany in pork production.

According to Eurostat data, pork production in Spain between January and September of last year stood at 3,823,670 tons, an increase of 3.89% compared to the same period of the previous year (Figure 1). In relation to the number of head slaughtered, there was a 4.30% increase from 41,140,634 head between January and September 2020 to 42,907,752 head for the same period in 2021.

Spanish monthly pork production in September was once again above German production (Figure 2) and for the period January-September, Spanish pork production (3.82 million tons) exceeded German production (3.73 million tons) for the first time.
