Russia imposed temporary restrictions on breeding pig importation from Germany and Czechia

Due to identification during the quarantine in Russia of brucellosis positive breeding pigs imported from Germany and Czechia, since April 27, 2012 the Rosselkhoznadzor has imposed temporary restrictions on importation of such animal category from these countries.

In December 2011, 620 breeding pigs were imported from Germany in the Belgorod Oblast. During the quarantine in the Russia’s territory part of the animals demonstrated positive results for brucellosis (tests were carried out in three Russian laboratories). Diagnosis was confirmed by the National Veterinary Research Institute, Pulawy, Poland. Moreover in December the same year, 637 breeding pigs were imported from Czechia to the Belgorod Oblast. Part of the animals was also positive for brucellosis (tests were carried out in three Russian laboratories). Diagnosis was confirmed by the Polish National Veterinary Research Institute.

Absence of response from the European Commission on grave violation of animal health rules and regulations raises extremely grave concern of the Rosselkhoznadzor.
