Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich has held a conference call on measures to fight African swine fever and other highly dangerous human and animal diseases. This conference call was attended by heads of relevant federal ministries and departments as well as representatives of Russian regions where these diseases were registered this year.

Arkady Dvorkovich said that Government agencies have registered 52 outbreaks of African swine fever in the Voronezh, Rostov, Volgograd, Tver, Tambov, Saratov regions and in the Republic of Northern Ossetia; two outbreaks in Northern Ossetia have been completely suppressed. In addition, 34 outbreaks of foot and mouth disease were registered in the Trans-Baikal and Krasnodar territories, the Amur Region, and the Karachayevo-Circassia and Kabardino-Balkaria republics.

The conference call participants said that these regions have not conducted the necessary work on disease prevention. There were instances of attempts to cover up the outbreaks of diseases. The Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Protection and Welfare cited violations in meat storage and transportation and in waste utilisation.

The conference call participants discussed disease prevention and suppression measures. The National Meat Association made the relevant proposals.
