The first official report of African swine fever in Thailand was confirmed by the Department of Livestock Development on January 11, 2022 following random testing of farms and slaughterhouses. Of the 309 samples tested, ASF was detected in one surface swab collected from a slaughterhouse in the Nakhon Pathom province.

Authorities are investigating the source of the pigs and are taking measures to monitor, control, and prevent ASF. The authorities are to declare a 5-km epidemic outbreak zone around the origin of the sample and consider culling pigs. The Department of Livestock Development must notify the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).
