Pig production increases in Russia

In the first trimester of 2017, pig production has increased by more than 5%, mainly in the regions of Pskov, Chelyabinsk, Tver and Voronezh, and in the territory of Stavropol.

Pig production for slaughter in terms of liveweight and regarding all the categories has increased by 5.3% in the first trimester of 2017 in comparison with the same period in 2016, reaching more than 1 million tonnes. The growth on the commercial farms was by 3.7% (856,900 tonnes).

"The main rise in pork production has been in the regions of Pskov, Chelyabinsk, Tver and Voronezh, and in the territory of Stavropol. A slight decrease in the volume produced was recorded in Tomsk, Penza, Vladimir, Ryazan and Krasnodar," announced the Director of the Department of Livestock of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, Mr. Kharon Amerkhanov.
