Boredom in pigs can trigger abnormal behaviors such as tail biting. The use of enrichment materials in pens can prevent the occurrence of this behavior. In order to introduce and promote the effective use of these materials on more and more pig farms, Wageningen University & Research has initiated the 2-year project "Pig Enrichment."

The project has space for a minimum of 24 pig producers and 9 pig veterinarians who want to acquire and share practical experience. It is divided into 3 study groups, supervised by experts from Wageningen Livestock Research and Veterinair Kenniscentrum Oost Nederland (VKON). In each group, four thematic online discussions are organized, with a webinar or seminar as a closing meeting, in which the different enrichment materials are discussed.
