Following the publication on the internet of a new video about animal abuse in a French slaughterhouse, the Minister of Agriculture, Stéphane Le Foll, after describing such practices as intolerable, asked the prefect for the immediate suspension of activity in the slaughterhouse. Despite the intensification of welfare inspections in slaughterhouses, this is the third video that reveals acts of cruelty.

Under these circumstances, the Minister requested the prefects to implement, within one month, specific animal welfare inspections in all slaughterhouses around the country and, in case of serious shortcomings, to withdraw authorizations without delay and to sstart a disciplinary inquiry.

The results of these specific inspections shall be forwarded to the Parliamentary Committee. Based on these inspections, the Minister will take the necessary measures to strengthen the operators' responsibility.
