During the first three months of 2020, French exports of fresh, chilled, and frozen pork to the European Union increased 6% (6,000 t cwe) and exports to third countries increased 6% (2,000 t cwe), including China which saw an increase of 30%, compared to the same period of the previous year. However, due to logistical difficulties, March marked a marked slowdown in French exports to third countries.

China, however, is still buying; its pork imports (all origins combined) reached record volumes in April. For the coming months, operators still anticipate a sustained level of Chinese demand, even if transport costs remain high.

French pork imports have decreased, mainly from the EU, and significantly from Spain by -6% (4,000 t cwe).
