Denmark: drop in the use of antibitics in pig production

According to the data published by the Danish Agriculture and Food Council, between 2013 and 2014 the use of antibiotics on the Danish pig farms dropped by 5%.

According to the data published by the Danish Agriculture and Food Council, between 2013 and 2014 the use of antibiotics on the Danish pig farms dropped by 5%. During the same period, the number of pigs produced increased slightly.

Between 2010 and 2014 the decrease amounted 15%.

In comparison with other pig producing countries, Denmark is a real leader in terms of producing pork with a low antibiotic consumption. On the other hand, The Netherlands have also made great efforts during the last years to reduce the use of antibiotics, and currently they are almost at the same level than Denmark.

According to the information provided by the Danish Agriculture and Food Council, Denmark used 91 Ton antibiotic for pigs in 2013 and The Netherlands reported a use of 87 Ton in 2013.
With regards to the biomass of pigs, and according to the ESVAC report from 2012 from EMA, in Denmark was 1,808,000 Ton and 1,475,000 Ton in the Netherlands.
