The results of the animal welfare monitoring on pig farms carried out by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration in 2016 show the imposition of fines for a third of the pig farms visited.

Of the 307 visits to Danish pig farms in 2016, the Danish Administration fined one out of every three. These figures are at the same level than in 2015, and they are deemed unsatisfactory.

The most common problems where a limited access to materials that favour exploratory behaviours and sick animals that did not receive the attentions they required.

In the face of these results, the Minister, Mr Esben Lunde Larsen, has announced that the animal welfare control systems shall be improved to reduce the number of farms that do not fulfil the regulations.
