Pork production in Mato Grosso do Sul grew 71% between 2014 and 2020, a rate well above Brazil's average, which expanded by 40% in the same period. The data showing the growth of the pork chain in the state is from the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), compiled by the Semagro (Secretariat of Environment, Economic Development, Production and Family Agriculture) technical team.

Despite the increase in production, Mato Grosso do Sul is 6th in the ranking of pork exports. Sales to the foreign market fell considerably in 2018 and 2019 due to prioritization of the domestic market in these years. In 2020 there was a recovery in exports, which reached the highest level since 2015.

Hong Kong is currently Mato Grosso do Sul's main foreign trade partner in pork. In 2020 the volume exported to this country grew 400%, despite the drop in participation among the countries. Singapore stands out as the second country that consumes the most pork from the state, with a 20% participation in the balance of trade last year.

Currently, the pork chain is responsible for 16 thousand jobs and an estimated production of R$ 16 thousand million. There are 74.6 thousand sows distributed in 34 properties in the state, which have the advantage of the availability of quality grains for feed. The production has been in constant evolution, with a growth of 128% over 10 years and an increase of 131% in slaughter during the same period.
