The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) Scientific Committee has acknowledged 14 states and the Federal District as free of classical swine fever.

According to Mr. Guilherme Marques, director of the Animal Health Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, this decision facilitates the expansion of the Brazilian markets in a safe way.

Apart from the Federal District, the states acknowledged as free of CSF are Acre, Bahía, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Río de Janeiro, Rondônia, Sao Paulo, Sergipe, Tocantins and part of Amazonía (the municipalities of Guajará, Boca do Acre, the south of Canutama and the southwest of Lábrea). Up to now only two states had the WOAH's certificate: Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.
