On 21 December 2020, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) approved Belgium's self-declaration of African swine fever (ASF)-free status in all pigs (domestic pigs, wild boar (captive nd wild submitted by Belgium on 27 October and will soon be officially published on the OIE website.

This recovery of ASF free status confirms, this time on a global level, the official eradication of the disease from Belgian territory and will facilitate the international trade in meat and other pork products. The recovery of this international free status will allow to relaunch negotiations with third countries that have imposed an embargo on Belgian pork.
