The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Ministry of Economy of the Nation established, through Resolutions No. 50/2026 and No. 53/2026, the regulations for accessing the benefits of the tariff-rate quotas opened under the framework of the Agreement between MERCOSUR and the European Union (EU).
In this context, the EU granted 21 quotas for different agro-industrial products from MERCOSUR, creating new opportunities that consolidate the EU as a strategic trading partner, through high value-added exports carried out by numerous Argentine companies that are highly integrated into this trade flow.

Among the quotas granted are fresh and frozen beef; poultry and pork (whose sanitary opening is under negotiation), garlic, egg products, honey, rice, sugar, corn and sorghum; ethanol and dairy products.
Conversely, MERCOSUR granted the EU 11 tariff-rate quotas, four of which will be permanent (cheeses, garlic, infant formula, and milk powder), while the other seven (chocolates and canned tomatoes) will transition to free trade after 10 or 14 years—depending on the case—following the Agreement’s implementation. The process will be subject to prior licensing for entry into Argentine territory.
The MERCOSUR–EU Agreement constitutes a milestone in trade between both blocs, as it creates a common regulatory framework that provides predictability, thereby promoting investment in production chains while liberalizing 84% of tariffs on MERCOSUR agro-industrial exports and establishing quotas or fixed preferences for nearly all remaining products, thus improving access to the European market.
