According to the newspaper Clarín, Mr Diego Guelar, Argentine ambassador to China, announced, during his participation in the Third Valor Ganadero (Farming Value) Symposium, that in November a protocol will be signed that will allow Argentina to start the export of pork to China.

The signing of the protocol will be carried out in within the framework of the visit of the president of China, Mr Xi Jinping, to Argentina to attend the G20 summit.

The ambassador did not specify the amount of pork that Argentina will be able to export, because “the volume will depend on the investments and the development in Argentina".

In 2017, the Argentinian pig production exceeded six million heads slaughtered, reaching a production of 566,084 carcass tonnes. This represented a year-to-year increase by 8.4%. Regarding the international market, pork and pork derivatives also grew by 56.3% (3,596 carcass tonnes).
