Russia begins selling intervention grain

Sales of grain from the intervention fund will begin on February 4, 2011. By the end of June 2011 the Government plans to sell at the commodity exchange up to 2.5 million metric tons to livestock producers, feed and flour mills. The start-up price of grain sales will vary by types and by provinces, but the minimum is set at 6,000 rubles ($200) per metric ton.

Russia - The Rosselkhoznadzor imposes temporary restrictions on import of pigs and porcine from Germany

Currently, 1478 establishments in Germany export their products to the Russian Federation. The Rosselkhoznadzor requested German Veterinary Service to provide information specifying establishments that have been exported their live animals, feed, pork and poultry meat as well as finished meat products containing pork produced in the territory of Germany since November 1, 2010, excluding products each batch of those was tested for dioxin by German Veterinary Service with negative results.

China - Feed output rises in November 2010

According to the data from National Bureau of Statistics, Chinese feed industry output 16.93 million tons of compound feed in November 2010, 31.2% up on the same month in 2009 and 4.8% higher in comparison with October 2010.

European Union- Commissioner Dalli is considering tougher EU legislation to make food and feed safety systems more efficient

Commissioner Dalli gave a speech on 17 January 2011 in the EP plenary in Strasbourg. In the speech the Commissioner gives an overview of the contamination incident, highlighting the good co-operation between the Commission and the German authorities and providing an outlook on the measures which could be envisaged at EU level to further improve the EU feed and food safety system.
