The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) officially recognized Bolivia’s Santa Cruz department as free of classical swine fever (CSF) during the 93rd General Session of the World Assembly of Delegates held in Paris, France.

According to the certificate issued on May 22, 2026, the decision was approved following a recommendation by the WOAH Scientific Commission on Animal Diseases and recognizes that the zone designated by Bolivia complies with the provisions set forth in the 2025 WOAH Terrestrial Animal Health Code.

The document states that this recognition is based on the technical documentation submitted by Bolivia and further establishes the obligation to maintain epidemiological surveillance, report any situation related to CSF, and confirm annually that the disease status remains unchanged.

This recognition represents a strategic step forward for Bolivian animal health and for the development of the pork industry in Santa Cruz, a region that accounts for the majority of the country’s pork production.

Achieving this international health status also creates a stronger foundation for improving the sector’s competitiveness and expanding market access opportunities for Bolivian pork. The international certification officially recognizes the department of Santa Cruz as a classical swine fever-free zone and enhances the health standing of the Bolivian swine industry.
