Uruguay notified the presence of brucellosis

The veterinary authorities of Uruguay have notified the OIE the presence of Brucella suis in a pig farm with 663 susceptible animals of which 41 cases in Canelones (Canelones).

The veterinary authorities of Uruguay have notified the OIE the presence of Brucella suis in a pig farm with 663 susceptible animals of which 41 cases in Canelones (Canelones).

The outbreak was detected following abortions having started in August. There was no history of abortions in the farm. Six abortions were reported in August. Only artificial insemination is used.

An epidemiological investigation is on-going in order to establish the origin of the infection. Stamping out is being coordinated by the health authorities.
