Following the entry of African swine fever into the Americas last year, national organizations from 18 Latin American countries virtually formed a continental committee known as the "ASF Prevention Group Latam" to discuss strategies to prevent ASF in the region. Now having been joined by members of the U.S. pork industry, the committee has become "ASF Prevention America".

The joining of the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC), an entity that represents the U.S. pork industry, favors continental action in disease prevention, especially ASF.

The new "ASF Prevention America" committee has been discussing new actions for the 2022 strategic agenda for disease prevention. As a result, the group now includes 22 organizations from the following countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
