UK wheat harvest down nearly 40%, barley increases

According to preliminary data, the UK wheat harvest is down below the 5-year average while barley production has increased.

According to preliminary data from Defra, the estimated 2020 wheat harvest in the UK was 10.1 million tonnes, a decrease of 37.5% compared to 2019. This figure is below the five year average of 15.1 million tonnes (2015-2019).

The provisional barley production figure for the UK has increased by 3.9% to 8.4 million tonnes in 2020. It is above the five year average of 7.2 million tonnes.
