The Spanish animal health and nutrition industry grew in 2017

Exports are, one year on, the driving force of the sector, with an increase by 8.36% with respect to 2016

The Spanish animal health and nutrition industry grew by 5.01% in 2017 with respect to 206, with a global sales turnover of €1,417.68 million, of which €938.68 million belonged to the national market, with an increase by 3.38%, and the remaining €479 million belonged to exports, that grew by 8.36% with respect to 2016.

These data show the consolidation of the Spanish animal health and nutrition sector after the last years, during which it has regained the lost ground after the Spanish economic crisis, specially the data regarding to the foreign market, where this sector increments its international presence increasingly, and the companies pertaining to Veterindustria are already present in more than 90 countries thanks to the quality, safety and efficacy of its drugs and animal health products.

Regarding the Autonomous Communities, the figures place Catalonia in the first position in the national ranking once more, with a global sales turnover of €255.96 million, that represent 27.27% of the total, whilst the last position is held by The Basque Country, with €9.20 million and 0.98% of the national percentage.

Regarding the species, swine lead the national classification, with €330.36 million and 35.19%; followed by dogs and cats, with €256.37 million and 27.32%; and cattle, with €213.61 million and 22.76%. The last position is held by exotic animals, with €0.79 million and 0.08%.

In the Product area, Drugs lead the ranking, with €416.48 million and a growth by 6.49%, that entail 44.37% of the total of products.

We must mention that additives and premixes fall by 12.80% (reaching €132.61 million) with respect to 2016.
